I am a passionate Indian,” Nita Ambani recounts. She has poured that passion into an ever-expanding range of patriotic and humanitarian initiatives, events and institutions. Ambani in particular is the first Indian to be appointed Director Emeritus of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and she has sponsored exhibitions there and at the Art Institute of Chicago. She founded India's professional soccer league and became the first Indian woman elected to the International Olympic Committee. She owns the most successful cricket team in the Indian Premier League, the Mumbai Indians. She has set up an international school and non-profit hospital in Mumbai, both of which are rated among the best in India. Many of these projects and countless others are under the auspices of the Reliance Foundation, which Ambani founded in 2010. This is a massive charity effort that has touched millions of lives. Under Ambani's leadership, the foundation has been involved in everything from saving Indian elephants to training world-class athletes and fighting the coronavirus pandemic. This month he will present the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Center in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla district, considered India's premier cultural and performing arts destination.
